Last Monday – March 7th – Noah started getting sick. He had a low grade fever and started a runny nose and cough. Tuesday and Wednesday he was getting worse and Thursday morning while we were eating breakfast, he said he wanted Daddy to come home so we could do to the doctor. I was a little shocked that he wanted to go to the doctor because we’ve never went to the doctor before (expect their well visits). He said he felt icky and wanted to go to the doctor. I’m not one to run to the doctor, but as soon as Rick came home and he heard what Noah wanted to do, he told me I needed to call the doctor so we could go in. Well, it turns out he has croup and an ear infection. He has been laying on the couch and sleeping pretty much since then. He just doesn’t have the energy to do much. In the picture above, he came over to his trains and turned one of them one and was watching it. Then I didn’t hear him moving around, so I looked up from my computer to find him asleep like this!
On Friday, he started looking really bad…his eyes were all red, puffy, watery, itchy, and he had lots of eye boogers. He’s starting to look a little better now, but Faith is getting the nasty cough and eye boogers. They both want attention and want to be held, so there’s a lot of cuddle time around here lately.
We are hoping we can make it back to Iowa this weekend to celebrate Faith’s 1st birthday, but if they don’t get better pretty soon, we might have to postpone our trip. I’m hoping Noah is snapping out of it…he seemed to have a little more energy tonight, so that’s good!!!
Well, we decided that we should buy a zoo membership this year. So we took the morning off and headed to the zoo. They have “Toddling Troops” every Thursday morning 1/2 hour before the zoo opens for members. The animals are not out yet, but it’s a time that you can go and walk around the zoo before it opens. We pretty much just walked in and stood by the Polar Bear exhibit and watched the zoo keepers getting ready to let out the polar bear. Once they let him out, he went straight for his food. He ate all the fish first and left the carrot and apple for last. The last time they weighted him, he was 850 pounds. They think he will be well over a thousand pounds when he’s fully grown!
Part of the zoo is not open because they are building an African Sky Safari. I’m sure it will be a great addition to the zoo, but I didn’t get to see my giraffes! We did get to see the elephants – although we had just left the snakes and Noah wanted more snakes. Who’s kid is this anyway?? I HATE snakes!!!! And who picks snakes over elephants???
Faith seemed to really take everything in. She even rode the carousel!!
When we left the zoo, the temperate was 73 degrees!!!! Needless to say, we didn’t have our jackets on anymore!
Last weekend we went to our neighbors house so the little boys could have a play-date. The big boys wanted to build the ultimate Lego train track – so off we went to the basement to construct it. The big boys constructed the track, the ladies built the supports, the little boys played with cars, colors and music and Faith was more of the constructional safety checker, making sure everything was put together strong enough!
After the track was built, Noah decided he wanted to be a rock star. He started playing the drums then he’d hop off the seat and get the guitar and start playing and singing into the mic.
Here’s a video of the final Lego train track from that night.
Here’s some pictures of the 6 inches of snow we received last weekend. Noah has been loving playing in the snow. The other day he asked to go outside while we were having breakfast. I told him that we needed to wait until Faith took her morning nap and then we could go outside. About 5 minutes later, he told me that Faith was tired…nice try kiddo!!!
I tried to get a picture of Faith sitting in the snow, but she wouldn’t look at the camera, then she started getting fussy…guess the wet snow soaking through her pants probably didn’t help!!!
Here’s a picture of Noah coloring the snow. Rick was gone when we did this and he said he could see it as soon as he turned down our block…guess it stuck out pretty bad!!! Maybe it’s a good thing a lot of the snow melted yesterday!
On the 27th, we loaded everything up and headed to George. We stopped in Emmetsburg to see a friend, so that helped the break the trip up a little bit. That night we celebrated Christmas with my Dad’s side. Noah got a little farm set and Faith got a cookie jar toy and they both got an ornament with their pictures on it. It was also Ryan & Dee’s 7th anniversary!!!
The 28th we headed to Ryan & Dee’s farm to go sledding!!! Noah was actually more interested in seeing the cows, so after a couple of trips down the hill, Rick and Noah went to look at the cows. A few days before we came back to Iowa, he said he wanted to see Reid and Ryan’s cows and that it was cold so we needed to cover the cows up with blankets. So maybe he was concerned about them! Here’s a picture of Renae and Noah coming down the hill…Renae said she was trying to be dramatic for Noah’s sake!!
That night we had Christmas with my Mom’s side. Mom vetoed my vote to not dress Faith in her Christmas dress. So Faith got to wear it one more time! The grandkids sang “Jingle Bells” for everyone…at least they attempted it!!! It was pretty cute. Noah got a game and Faith got a sippy cup with her name on it.
The 29th was spent as a little more relaxing day, but I did get my hair cut…7 inches cut off!!!! It really needed to be cut…I haven’t had a haircut since a month before Faith was born (and she’s now 9 months old)! That night, we had our family Christmas!!! Noah got a Thomas match game and a bath towel and toy. Faith got a pink tea set and a glow worm (this brought back memories for Renae and I because we each had one when we were growing up).
That night, Noah didn’t really seem to be himself and after everyone was getting ready for bed and leaving, Noah threw up all over me – I’m not good at handling puke!! We thought it was too much junk food over the last week mixed with being on the go so much. Well, after throwing up a few times, we figured it was probably the flu. Needless to say, we didn’t get much sleep that night. Faith also got sick during the night, but we figured that they’d be better by the morning for our trip back to Kansas. They seemed to be fine for the first 4.5 hours, but then it all went down hill after that. First Noah was sick a couple of times…and we only were 1/2 successful at getting the bucket to him soon enough. We pulled over at a gas station to “get cleaned up” and to empty the bucket. Once we were back on the road, he’d do it again and then Faith decided she wanted to join in a few rounds. I’m just surprised I didn’t join in…it took about everything in me to keep from throwing up.
As soon as we got him, I started the bath and just let them soak for awhile while Rick cleaned out the car. I’m just glad that Rick can handle it!!! I’m not sure what kind of bug Noah picked up, but he’s still throwing up every once in a while and now we can add diarrhea to the list! They both seem to have that right now. I’m really hoping that they get over this bug pretty soon…I think I’m doing laundry non-stop right now.
Besides getting the flu, it was great to be back with family over Christmas! It was nice to get back to a little warmer weather and not see any snow!!! I’m pretty sure we decided on the way home that Christmas needs to be at our house next year! I’m sure we’ll change our mind and forget about the car ride back…eventually!!!
