Arends Are in the House

Posted by Rachel on Jul 22, 2010 in Around KC

The Arends clan came down for a visit this past weekend!! They arrived Friday night and we just got some Wendy’s takeout to eat.

Saturday morning it was time for the pool – I think Noah loved swimming with the kids. I guess it is a little nicer than our little kiddie pool we have in the back yard for him! Rick put Brian to work and had him help take out the motor in the Nova. I think Rick picked one of the hottest days to do it! Sorry Brian, but thank s for helping!!!! Then it was time for lunch! We headed to Pizza Street – a pizza/pasta/ice cream buffet – yeah, I think we were all stuffed when we left! We thought it would be fun to go to Power Play – it’s like Chuck E Cheese on steroids! We’ve actually only been there one time before, but we though the kids would LOVE it (and of course Rick too!). Well, we got there and it was closed for a private party, so that was a bummer. But we headed back home and the Arends kids went swimming and the Nielsen kids took a nap. We grilled steaks and potatoes for dinner.

Sunday morning we went to a breakfast buffet. The kids sat at one table and the adults at another. I think Noah has a little crush on Kenna (the middle child)! Rick got a plate of food for Noah and he was sitting at the table, just waiting for Kenna to come back. As soon as she did, Noah patted the seat next to him and got all giddy when she sat down! So cute!!

The weekend went way to fast and having two little kids, kind of dampers what we could do. Plus it was so hot outside that we really didn’t want to be outside, unless it was at the pool!! But we had a great time with some great friends! Thanks for coming to visit Brian, Pam, Kaley, McKenna and Connor!!

Thomas the Train

Posted by Rachel on Jun 12, 2010 in Around KC, Noah

Noah had a BIG day yesterday!!! We went to “A Day Out With Thomas” in Baldwin City – just a little south of us. He got up and we started getting ready and then we made the mistake of asking him if he wanted to go see Thomas the Train. Well, being that we said it, he wanted to leave…NOW! He had like two bites of breakfast and a sip of milk and he wanted to get going. Our neighbor was going to watch Faith and she wasn’t even to our house yet and Noah wanted to get in the car, so him and Rick sat in the car for about 15-20 minutes before we actually left. Rick said he just kept asking to go bye-bye and where’s Thomas.

We got going down the interstate and there was a train next to the road, so Noah was excited about that. Then we parked at the high school where there was some construction vehicles and then got on a bus to head to the railroad. So Noah is already excited and then we pulled up to the train station and Noah (and the other kids on the bus) started pointing and saying “Thomas, Thomas”. I thought he was going to pop! And to top it off, there was even a fire truck there too!!

Our train ride was at 9:45 and we were there about an hour ahead of time, so we got to go around to the tents they had set up. One tent had tattoos that they were putting on and Noah has been pretty proud of his. I think he’s shown about everyone his tattoo already – I’m not sure what he’s going to do when it rubs off!! There was another tent that had tables with trains that you could play with. Another tent had storytelling and videos. There was a magician that put on a show, a bubble station and a little petting zoo. They also had a sand box area and a little maze made out of straw bales.

We weren’t sure how Noah would do on the train ride, but while we were standing in line, he kept pointing to the train, so we thought it might be good. THEN we got on the train and he didn’t like it. He kept wanting to get down. I’m not sure what was really wrong, but as soon as the train started moving, he was fine.

He seemed to have a great time and didn’t want to leave. It did help that we got to ride the bus back to our vehicle!! I forgot how load buses are!!

There are some more pictures here.

Memorial Day Weekend

Posted by Rachel on May 30, 2010 in Around KC, Faith, Holidays, Noah

On Saturday morning we headed downtown to Union Station to see the dinosaur exhibit. We’ve been down there before to look at the trains and Noah remembered the trains and didn’t really care too much about the dinosaurs. So we didn’t even go into the exhibit, just looked at the dinosaurs outside the building. Then we headed over to the trains…and we got lucky! Just as we were walking up to the trains sitting on the track, another train came through!! I think Noah was in heaven!!

When we got back from downtown, we changed into our swim suits and headed down to the neighborhood pool for a pool party to kick off summer. Noah really liked the pool and running around. Faith pretty much slept in my arms the whole time. Right before we left, they brought ice cream to the pool so everyone could have an ice cream cone. I think Noah wore most of his ice cream!! He needs to eat it way faster so it doesn’t melt so much!! We all seemed to have gotten our first sun burn of the season…hopefully it’s the last sun burn too!!

Hope everyone had/has a good Memorial Day weekend!! We thank everyone who has given their life to protect our country!

Lions and Tigers and Bears on Motorcyles

Posted by Rachel on Nov 14, 2009 in Around KC, Noah

This morning we headed downtown with our next door neighbors and went to the 74th Annual Shrine Circus. We weren’t sure if Noah would sit through the whole thing, but he did really good!!! The first thing was the tigers and lion – which were on the other end. Noah was more fascinated with the light sticks that were flashing in the crowd, maybe it was because the trapeze net was sorta in our way and he didn’t have a good view of the tigers. At intermission we walked around the circus rings and he watched the elephants walk around as they were giving rides to some kids. There were also some miniature horses that kids could ride on too. Of course, I didn’t bring any cash with me when we went to walk around, so Noah had to just watch the animals. I figured he was a little young for it yet anyway.

When we got back to our seat, Rick got Noah a hotdog and he ate almost the whole thing!!! Guess he was hungry!! He only let me have a little bite. When the circus started back up again, there was more juggling with fire, dancing, and clowning around. Then out came the bears!! These bears rode bikes and a motorcylce, danced and did all sorts of tricks!!! After some more high-flying stunts, it was the  elephants turn to make their appearance. They were in the opposite ring again, but we had a good view this time.

It was a fun time and Noah did great. Rick, on the other hand, was worse than a little kid. He wanted a light stick and I wouldn’t let him get one! So he pretended he had one and would wave it around. And you know you can imagine him doing it too!!!
